The brother-in-law of Anne Bury has said the family are bewildered and at a loss as to why someone would murder her and shoot at her son Alex and mother Cecilia.
Robert Williams from Guisborough told ITV News, ''We are left feeling somewhat numb as well as saddened by the whole affair.''
Mr Williams was keen to put to rest any speculation about a relationship Anne was having with her gardener - the man believed to be under arrest by police for her murder.
He said the 46-year-old was employed as a maintenance man to look after the gardens and the house while Anne was away.
Anne only used the property a few times a year and for the rest of the time it was rented out, so she needed someone locally to look after it and make sure it was in a good state of repair - including tasks like fixing the air conditioning.
The 56-year-old bought the property in Turkey as a pension investment.
