Cameron and Putin clash over Syria 'chemical attack'

David Cameron has clashed with Russian president Vladimir Putin during a heated discussion about whether the Syrian government was behind an alleged chemical attack.

The Prime Minister told Putin there was "little doubt" President Assad's forces carried out the attack and "no evidence" backs the regime's claim that the opposition was responsible, a Downing Street spokesman said.

Cameron also said the regime's failure to allow UN inspectors access until five days after the attack suggested they had "something to hide".

But the Russian president told him there was "no evidence of whether a chemical weapons attack had taken place or who was responsible", Number 10 said.
