The mosque that formed the centre of the pro-Morsi encampment in Cairo has been burnt and damaged after yesterday's crack down by Egyptian security forces.

The site had grown to something of a miniature city over the past few weeks, with security guards, barricades, food tents, and dormitories, Al Jazeera reports.

Yesterday police and riot police dispersed the camps after a six-week stand-off. The death toll from the violence stands at 525.

The Muslim Brotherhood, the party of deposed leader Morsi, say the death toll is much higher in what it described as a "massacre."
