First 3D printer available on high street

Maplin has become the first high street electronics retailer to sell 3D printers to consumers.

The £700 machine allows users to print three-dimensional objects including jewellery, shoes and mobile phone cases.

The technology, which has previously only been available to professional printing companies, has proved popular with customers having to wait over 30 days for delivery.

The printers work by building tiny layers of plastic on top of each other to create the 3D effect.
