Ben Daniels favourite to be next Doctor Who

Ben Daniels is the early favourite to be named the Doctor Who, after a rush of bets saw his odds tumble.

The Cutting It star is the 3-1 favourite to get the job, while Chiwetel Ejiofor, Russell Tovey and Damien Moloney are all placed at 10-1.

Matt Smith announced at the weekend that he was leaving the show after three years in the role describing it as an "honour" to play the Doctor.

There are suggestions that a woman could take charge of the Tardis for the first time, with Billie Piper 16-1 to land the role and Bafta winner and Broadchurch star Olivia Colman priced at 25-1, according to William Hill.

The betting firm said it was "only be a matter of time before a woman pilots the Tardis."
