Barack Obama has personally assured survivors of the Oklahoma tornado they will not be left to rebuild their communities alone, telling them: "When we say we've got your back, I promise you, we keep our word."
The US President said his administration's response to recent disasters across the country proved that the disaster-hit town of Moore would be guaranteed federal support.
Mr Obama said a message from a bible found among the debris after last week's tornado had underlined God's will but reminded Americans of their human abilities to help one another.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
