An attempt by a US diplomat to recruit a Russian agent for the Central Intelligence Agency is an impediment to efforts to improve US-Russian relations, President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said.
In the first Kremlin comment on the detention and expulsion of the diplomat, spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Itar-Tass news agency that the incident was regretful. But he did not threaten any further action over the incident.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
