Italian president Napolitano re-elected for second term
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano has been re-elected for an unprecedented second term, to resolve a growing political crisis, after an appeal by the main parties. It is the first time in Italy's history a president will serve two terms.
The 87-year-old was ready to stand down on May 15, but due to "the grave situation that has arisen with successive votes", has been asked to reconsider his decision, said his office.
