Virgin Trains has confirmed it is planning to bid for the East Coast rail route. It is set to return to the private sector after the Government announced changes to the franchise bidding process following the West Coast mainline fiasco.
Private companies have been invited to bid for the East Coast rail franchise by the Department for Transport. The line has been run in the public sector since 2009.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
