Beefeater owner Whitbread has vowed to track ingredients from "field to fork" after horse DNA was found in its food.

The leisure group, which owns the chains Brewers Fayre, Premier Inn and Costa, was dragged into the horsemeat scandal earlier this month after investigating its meat supply chain.

Whitbread withdrew lasagne and beef burger products from its menus following the discovery of horse DNA on February 14.

The group's preventative measures include extending independent batch testing on processed meat and requiring certification from its meat suppliers.
