The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has announced that Lewisham Hospital will keep its emergency department, although it will be downgraded.
He also confirmed Lewisham's maternity services will become a midwife-led unit.
The plans have prompted demonstrations and a petition with 40,000 signatures being presented to the Government.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
