Top Tory admits Govt 'broken'

David Cameron and Nick Clegg insisted the Coalition is "united" until 2015 as they mark the halfway point in their Government. But Tory peer Lord Strathclyde, who quit as Lords leader today, admitted he had complained the partnership was "broken."

Timeline: Coalition tensions since May 2010

Prime Minister David Cameron and Nick Clegg will renew their vows as they announce the Government's mid-term review of the coalition's achievements today.

But the the last two-and-a-half years have seen plenty of tests for the first post-war coalition Cabinet:

  • May 2010: Coalition deal announced. By the end of the month, David Laws is forced to resign;
  • December 2010: Government suffers Commons revolt over tuition fees;
  • March 2011: Lib Dem activists pass motion criticising Tory-led NHS reform plans;
