Morrisons Christmas sales dropped 2.5% on last year
Morrisons is expected to come under more pressure after it reported its performance over the Christmas trading period was down.
The company announced that in the 6 weeks to 30 December like for like sales declined by 2.5% compared to 2011.
In a statement the company said: "The environment over the Christmas period has continued to be challenging with hard pressed consumers increasingly shopping to a budget and vouchering a prominent feature of a highly promotional market."
Chief Executive Officer, Dalton Philips added, "In a difficult market our sales performance was lower than anticipated, but we have a strong business and significant opportunities to advance our strategy, as we accelerate our multi-channel offer."
