Asked by Deputy Political Editor Chris Ship about the allegations, Mr Johnson said:
"He is not the ogre he is commonly depicted as, he is brilliant campaign manager, and a very very nice guy."
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
