Britain fails to pick up a medal

Britain's hopes of a golden start to the Olympics were dashed today as the nation failed to pick up a medal. Huge crowds turned out to line the route of the 250km men's road race, the weather was good and there were no reported transport problems.

Swimming: Australia get gold in the women's 100 metres freestyle, their first medal in the Games so far.

DISAPPOINTMENTS

Swimming: GB's Michael Jamieson and Craig Benson comes third and sixth in the 100 metres breaststroke semi-final, so neither will be competing in the final.

Swimming: GB drop from third to fifth in the women's 100 metre freestyle and so fail to medal.

Handball: Great Britain Women have lost against Montenegro 31-19, but not bad for their first ever game.
