The FA could step in to attempt to diffuse a Twitter row that is threatening to drive a wedge between senior England football players.

The Telegraph reports that the Football Association will contact the players involved - likely to include John Terry, Ashley Cole and Rio Ferdinand - to prevent the row continuing into the next Premier League season.

Rio Ferdinand has travelled to South Africa with Manchester United ahead of their pre season tour which also sees them play in China, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
