RBS boss 'nearly quit' over bonus

The chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland Stephen Hester has told ITV News he was "within inches of quitting" during row over his bonus. He also told sixth formers at a school in Streatham in south London that "life is not about money."

Hester: 'People have hated money-lenders for thousands of years'

The Royal Bank of Scotland chief executive Stephen Hester has told students in a south London school that "people have hated money lenders for five thousands years", when asked whether bankers' reputation could be restored.

Hester said that the students should "not worry" about what people think.
