Canada imposes sanctions on Syrian oil and First Lady

Canada has outlawed any new investment in the Syrian oil sector, and has halted any imports of petroleum products from Syria.

Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said:

"These latest sanctions target in particular those who profit from their association with the regime and those closest to Assad, including his wife Asma"

"Canada's position is clear: Assad must go"
