The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said the clashes in Damascus last night are the most violent the Syrian capital has seen.
Rami Adbulrahman said 18 pro-Assad fighters were wounded in the shooting, and that the sound of heavy machine gun fire echoed through the night.
He said:
"These clashes were the most violent and the closest to the security force headquarters in Damascus since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution."
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
