Minute's applause rather than silence for Bradley Lowery was 'the right thing to do' at Gateshead 10k

A minute's applause - instead of the usual minute's silence to pay respects - has been held at the start line of the north east's biggest 10k to remember Bradley Lowery.

Bradley lost his battle with neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer, aged only six-years-old on Friday (7th July).

Tributes have been pouring in since, with Bradley's 'best mate' Jermain Defoe saying:"God has you in His arms and I will always carry you in my heart"

Organisers at the run today say paying tribute to Bradley with applause, rather than silence, was the "right thing to do".
