Push to improve mental health support for children
It is estimated that 1 in 10 children between the ages of 5 and 16 have a diagnosable mental health problem, and providing specialist help for them is one of the biggest challenges facing the NHS and many other organisations.
The charity Children North East says the number of young people it has provided counselling to has doubled in the last year.
Meanwhile, SCHOOLS NorthEast has announced a mental health commission, thought to be the first of its kind in the country, aimed at improving the support our regions' schools offer to their pupils.
