A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a young woman who was found dead in her flat.
Trimaan Dhillon, also known as Harry Dhillon, appeared in front of magistrates sitting at Newcastle Crown Court this morning after being charged with the murder of Alice Ruggles.
Twenty-four-year-old Alice was found dead in a flat on Rawling Road, Gateshead, on Wednesday night.
Dhillon, of Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik, Scotland, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on October 18.
