North Yorkshire transport link to close for maintenance work

Essential annual maintenance is to be carried out next month at Sutton Bank, one of North Yorkshire’s most important transport links.

The bank carries the A170 up an extreme gradient. The work this year includes the annual inspection and maintenance of the rock face.

To allow this maintenance to be done, Sutton Bank will close on Monday 5th September. The closure is expected to last one week, depending on the weather.

While the bank is closed, we’ll maintain access to premises on the bank whenever possible. However, the nature of the work means access may be restricted at times. Where drivers are permitted through the closure, we would ask them to take extra care while within the works.

Traffic will be diverted along the caravan route through Coxwold and Ampleforth. We ask drivers to drive considerately, especially through the villages, having regard for residents and obeying speed limits.
