'Black Diamond' arrives in Sunderland for Tall Ships Races

The Tall Ship 'Black Diamond' has arrived in Sunderland today, to mark the launch of a sailing training programme for local children.

It is hoped that the Sail Training Ambassador Programme will allow youngsters from the Sunderland area to participate in the Tall Ships Race, which is taking place in Sunderland in 2018.

The launch at the National Glass Centre this afternoon is being attended by the Princess Royal, who is supporting the programme which aims to inspire self-confidence and and personal responsibility in young people.
