Over 60 houses were evacuated in Corbridge, Northumberland, over the weekend as levels on the River Tyne rose to record levels after Storm Desmond.

The floods caused chaos and destruction across the town, but the annual Christmas event went ahead last night, and was attended by large numbers of people.

Shops stayed open late for those hunting for Christmas gifts, and there was a Christmas tree festival and carol singing event to keep attendees entertained.

There will be more on the situation in Corbridge in our programme at 6 o'clock.
