The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service has confirmed that a police dog has discovered a body at the scene of the fire which started in central Newcastle yesterday (December 1).
It started at Kard Bar in Cross Street.
Emergency services are still at the scene.
Tributes have been paid to the victim of a large fire in Newcastle. Brian Sandells, 81, was a well known figure in the city for decades.
Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service say it is believed the fire victim may be 81-year-old Brian Sandells.
A body has been recovered from the the site of the Newcastle city centre fire this afternoon (December 2).
