Tynemouth RNLI rescued a capsized sailing dinghy with two people on board near to South Shields pier yesterday afternoon in winds of over 60 mph.
Both passengers on the boat had already managed to get out of the water but the boat was drifting between the piers.
The lifeboat crew managed to get a tow rope attached to it and headed back to safety with the boat in tow.
However, as the rescue was underway in the Tyne harbour, another situation was unfolding five miles down the coast at Seaburn where a windsurfer had been reported to have been separated from his board.
The RNLI crew said anyone considering taking to the water should be mindful of the conditions.
"I would personally like to thank the local community for their amazing donations of food, toiletries and clothing. "
