Richard Gatiss, 25, from Gateshead, has pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to assault with intent to rob disabled pensioner Alan Barnes.
A fundraising campaign raised more than £300,000 to help him.
Alan Barnes, the Gateshead man who was a victim of an assault which shocked the country, said today that his attacker should be punished.
Richard Gatiss has a "drugs background" and was taking legal highs when he attacked the pensioner from Gateshead.
A second fundraising page has been set up for Alan Barnes, but it's thought it could be fake. £329k was raised for him after a mugging.
