Police have confirmed that a woman has been found dead in South Shields.
Officers received reports from the ambulance service of concern for the welfare of a woman on Devonshire Street at around 5:12am on Saturday. The 34-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police enquiries are ongoing and officers are currently in the area offering reassurances to the public.
Anyone who may have information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.
