Transfer news: Crystal Palace sign Shola Ameobi

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

Ameobi was a free agent after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep in December.

The 33-year-old Nigeria international has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Ameobi is likely to need time to regain fitness after an unsuccessful stint in Turkey.

During his 14 years at Newcastle United, Ameobi scored 53 goals.
