An estimated 200 people took part in a protest against the English Defence League in Middlesbrough. It was organised to coincide with a demonstration by members of the EDL, which is taking place later.
Demonstrators have begun marching from Middlesbrough's Ayresome Gardens towards the centre of the town, where they will rally against the English Defence League.
The EDL themselves will host a separate march later. Police have warned people on both sides that criminal behaviour would not be tolerated.
