More than £9m will be spent refurbishing Newcastle's Byker Wall.

The iconic housing development was built in 1970's.

Today, housing minister Kris Hopkins MP cut the ribbon marking the start of the improvements.

As well as a complete external overhaul, there will be a new digital aerial system, broadband for each property and an upgrade to door entry and CCTV systems.
