Sunderland have announced the signing of midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old arrives on Wearside after agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal with the Black Cats.

The Scotland international started his career with Chelsea and has spent time at Yeovil Town, Watford and Stockport, before joining Brighton in 2010 - when he was signed by then manager Gus Poyet.

Bridcutt appeared more than 150 appearances for the south coast club and earned his first Scotland cap against Serbia in March 2013. The player will wear shirt number 26.
