Lightning struck as baby slept

Lightning struck a house in Blyth, Northumberland, where a six-week-old baby was sleeping in a cot. The baby, its parents and another child all escaped unhurt, but the owner of the house and a neighbour had to tackle the fire.

Lightning struck home where baby was sleeping

A family, including a six-week-old baby, escaped from a fire after lightning struck the roof of their house overnight. The baby was sleeping in a cot directly underneath the roof space, on Trident Drive in Blyth, which was set alight in the storm.

Firefighters removed part of the roof to put out the fire. No one was hurt.
