The RNLI have been stood down as a salvage operation gets underway to try to recover a cargo ship which has run aground on rocks near to the Northumberland coast.

The MV Danio became grounded on the Blue Caps rocks on the Farne Islands early on Saturday morning.

Seahouses RNLI say that salvage teams plan to re-float the ship on high tide on Monday.

Operations manager Ian Clayton said that if that attempt is unsuccessful it could be two weeks before the waters would be high enough to tow the ship to safety.
