Famous Sunderland ex-pat and journalist Kate Adie has accepted Durham Cathedral's invitation to be their patron for next year's 'Jewels of the North' flower festival.
Kate Adie has been working with floral designer Pauline Lund and members of the National Association of Flower Arranger Societies to come up with ideas for the festival.
'Jewels of the North' will be a celebration of innovation in the North East inspired by the Anglo Saxon Lindisfarne Gospels due to go on display at the cathedral next summer.
The Lindisfarne Gospels were written in honour of St Cuthbert - the saint whose shrine Durham Cathedral was built to house.
The flower festival will take place from the 30th August to the 4th September next year and all money raised will be in support of the Cathedral's Open Treasure project.
