Coroner records accidental verdict after campsite death

A Kendal coroner has recorded a verdict of accidental death of a Darlington man who died from carbon monoxide poisoning on a campsite on Ullswater.

45-year-old Chris Bainbridge and his 43-year-old wife Jane were discovered slumped in a wooden camping pod at the Quiet Camp Site near Watermillock in March this year. The couple had lain there for two days before they were discovered.

Today, Coroner Ian Smith said "it was a terrible, tragic, horrible accident that highlighted the dangers of using or lighting barbecues inside tents"

His wife was found unconscious and was taken to hospital and survived.
