Tractor driver taken to hospital after collision with train

A tractor driver has been taken to hospital with what are described as "very minor injuries" after a collision with a train.

Jon Hill reports from the scene:

It happened on the A59 near Flaxby at around 6.30pm today.

Around 60 people on the train, which was travelling between Leeds and York, were unhurt after the crash. The road was closed, but has since reopened and most of the passengers were taken by coach to York and other stations.

66 passengers were on the Northern Rail service between York and Leeds when the train struck a tractor on a level crossing at Flaxby, near Knaresborough.

Police say a tractor driver, hit by a train at a level crossing in North Yorkshire, had a very lucky escape.

He was one of three people taken to hospital after the crash, at Flaxby near Knaresborough, at 6.20pm Thursday.

Rail services disrupted after train crash near Knaresborough

Rail services between Harrogate and York have been disrupted tonight after a train crash near Knaresborough. Buses are replacing trains in the area.

The crash, between a train a tractor, happened at a level crossing between Knaresborough and Cattal at around 6.20pm.

The train involved was the 5.29pm Northern Rail service from Leeds to York, a spokesperson from company has confirmed. Emergency services are currently on the scene and dealing with the situation. The tractor driver has been taken to hospital.
