Police advice for drivers
Police are advising motorists to extra take care and allow extra time for their journeys with wintry weather affecting driving conditions.
People are being warned about icy patches and snow, particularly on minor and untreated roads.
Drivers should moderate their speed, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and watch out for pedestrians walking on roads when footpaths are too icy to use.
Unsafe building in Sunderland
A1018 Roker Avenue Southbound is closed due to an unsafe building from Dixon's Square / Roker Avenue / Fulwell Road to Whickham Street. A short stretch of the one way road is closed on the corner with the Fort pub due to an unsafe building following recent high winds. The road is likely to remain closed until later today.
Caravan overturns in high winds on A66
The A66 is closed to high-sided vehicles due to strong winds between Brough and Bowes.
A caravan was blown over earlier this afternoon, blocking one carriageway.
A weather warning is in place until 8pm with gusts expected of up to 70mph.
Plymouth to Edinburgh train cancelled
The 12:39pm Plymouth to Edinburgh CrossCountry train service has been cancelled because of high winds.

Strong winds bring trains to a halt on Teesside
Northern Rail has suspended services between Middlesbrough and Saltburn after strong winds blew metal sheeting onto the line.
A spokesman said they were unsure where the sheeting had come from.
Engineers are to cut up and remove the debris before services can resume.
Replacement buses are being provided.
Weather warnings for 70mph gusts
The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for the North East.
A further spell of very strong winds are expected, blowing from the west. Gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected in places. Heavy rain will accompany the high winds in some areas, with snow affecting some higher level routes.
A1 reopens southbound at Catterick
The A1 in North Yorkshire has reopened after closing due to flooding.
The southbound carriage between Catterick North and Catterick was shut between 5 and 9am while water was drained away.
The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall overnight and run-off from surrounding land which became water-logged.
