ITV Tyne Tees Local Hero Award: Winner announced

All this week we have been celebrating the kindness and commitment of all the finalists for our ITV Local Hero award.

Dr Joseph Chandy, Eleanor Houliston, Beryl Winter and Alex Waters were among those nominated by you for making a real difference in their community.

A tough decision for our judging panel, which included Paralympic and World Championship swimming gold medallist Josef Craig, from South Shields.

ITV News Tyne Tees presenter, Pam Royle, broke the news to this year's winner.

Pride of Britain 2013: Nominations close tonight

It is your last chance to nominate somebody special for this year's ITV Local Hero Award. It is a way of saying 'thank you' to a person who has made a big difference to their community.

The winner will be announced at The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards in October.

Jonny Blair went to meet one previous finalist, who says it is an honour and a privilege to be nominated.

Nominations close at midnight for ITV Local Hero Award

Today (Friday 16 August) is the last chance to nominate someone special for this year's ITV Local Hero Award, part of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards for 2013.

We're looking people who make a real difference to their neighbourhood.They may be volunteers or professionals, who go way beyond the call of duty.

Pride of Britain Awards: Nominations for ITV Local Hero close Friday 16th August

This year ITV News is again joining forces with the Daily Mirror to find someone you think deserves to be crowned our Local Hero 2013.

We're looking for people who go the extra mile to be a real force for good in their neighbourhood. They could be volunteers or professionals, who go way above and beyond the call of duty.

They're the people you just want to say a big 'thank-you' to, and see their story featured on ITV.

People like our 2012 ITV Local Hero winner for the Tyne Tees and Border region, Wendy Brading.

Wendy runs a lunch club in Middlesbrough for anyone in the area who is homeless, lonely or in need.

The Local Hero award will form part of the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards, which will be screened later this year on ITV.

Our regional winner will attend the star-studded awards in London in October, when the overall Local Hero winner for the UK will be unveiled.
