North East braces for wind to hit New Year celebrations as weather warnings issued
The North East is set to see an unsettled end to 2024, with strong winds potentially disrupting New Year celebrations.
The Met Office has issued a series of weather warnings from Monday (30 December) until Tuesday night.
On Monday, a yellow weather warning for wind is in place for some parts of County Durham, including Barnard Castle and Stanhope.
Then on New Year's Eve, a yellow warning for wind covers a much wider area, including all of the North East and much of North Yorkshire. It is in place from 7am until 11pm.
The Met Office is warning those with travel plans that the wind could cause delays, and could lead to restrictions placed on high-sided vehicles on exposed routes.
