Sam Fender has cancelled this month's dates in Newcastle and Glasgow.

The North Shields singer songwriter posted on social media on Tuesday afternoon (17 December) to say he was "heartbroken" by the decision which was made due to issues with his vocal chords.

He was due to play to fans in Glasgow for a second night tonight, returning to a home crowd on Friday at Newcastle's Utilita Arena.

In a statement posted on X, Fender said he had had the flu in recent days but had been told by medical professionals today that he would risk lasting damage to his voice by continuing to perform.

He wrote: "Today I've had an ENT scope, camera down my throat and sadly I've haemorrhaged my right vocal cord, I'm absolutely heartbroken.

"This has been the best tour so far and all I want to do is get up and sing again for you all tonight.

"I've had two separate ENT doctors say if I perform tonight I'm risking lasting damage to my voice and I have been advised to be on vocal rest and not use my voice for a prolonged length of time until it heals."

Last month the award-winning musician announced two more Newcastle gigs at St James' Park in 2025.

The announcement followed the release of his first new music since 2022 and recent updates on his new album and a European tour, which included the now cancelled concert in Newcastle on Friday.
