Four arrested on suspicion of murder after man dies in County Durham

Four people - including two teenagers - have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in County Durham.

Officers were called to the High Street area of Eldon Lane near Bishop Auckland just before 3am on Saturday 14 December, following reports of a disturbance.

A man in his 20s had suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was declared dead at the scene.

His family is being supported by specialist officers.

Two men and two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. A woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A police cordon has remained in place across the weekend and forensic investigation teams have also been on-site.

Officers are asking the public to avoid the area and to avoid any speculation around the circumstances surrounding the death.
