A Sunderland singer who was fundraising for potentially life-saving treatment in the US is "unlikely to be able to take any further part in the trial".

Faye Fantarrow was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in 2020.

With no known treatment or cure available in the UK, the 20-year-old launched a fundraising campaign to help her travel to the US for a pioneering trial.

It has now been announced that her health has deteriorated and she will not be well enough to continue with the treatment.

Posting on social media, a spokesperson from the fundraising campaign Fight for Faye wrote: "We are closing The Just Giving page and ceasing all fundraising with immediate effect.

"Faye’s health continues to deteriorate and it is unlikely she will be able to take any further part in the trial.

"We hope we have your support in using some of the fundraising funds to make Faye’s life more comfortable and allow her to remain mobile and at home.

"All remaining monies, once medical expenses have been covered, will be donated to charity."

She had been due to travel for the next stage of treatment in April, but was too unwell to do so.

In a post online she updated followers: "Unfortunately the final stages of treatment in America are not an option for me at the moment.

"I am currently having to take a step back to undergo a little bit of chemo but I hope to be bouncing back soon."

It's not the first time the musician has been treated for cancer.

At the age of eight, doctors diagnosed her with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. She underwent years of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which caused hair-loss and her mobility deteriorated.

She received a bone marrow transplant a few years later.

In August 2020, Ms Fantarrow was given the devastating news her life is ending when she was diagnosed with an aggressive Glioma brain tumour, believed to be a very rare consequence of the radiotherapy she had for her bone marrow transplant.
