Man arrested after serious collision on A19 on Teesside

A man has been arrested after a serious crash forced a stretch of the A19 on Teesside to close.

The collision, which happened on Sunday 24 July, caused both the north and southbound carriageways to be shut to traffic between the A1027 at Norton Interchange and the A689 at Coal Lane.

A man in his sixties suffered serious injuries after his moped collided with a car.

The driver of the car, a 44 year old man is in police custody.

The route southbound reopened to traffic around 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

Cleveland Police posted an update on their twitter feed confirming the northbound carriageway would remain closed for a number of hours.

The route eventually reopened after 6pm.
