180 jobs at risk at Sage Gateshead as it predicts loss of £10m
Sage Gateshead has announced that 180 roles are at risk and it has begun a 45-day redundancy consultation process.
The arts venue, which is run by a charitable trust, which run arts venue is projecting a £10m loss as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has also said though that is wants to play an "active role in the region’s recovery".
The charity has said that it has maximised its use of Government support packages including the Corona Virus Job Retention Fund, furloughing the majority of its 500 staff.
It has also said that it received "a positive response from the public to a fundraising campaign but that these measures alone will not be enough for it to deal with its losses.
Earlier this month the Government announced that it would provide a £1.57bn support package for the arts and cultural sector but the charity pointed out that this was not intended as a "wholesale 'bail out'" and added that any support would be about helping it get "through the immediate crisis" and was not part of the "whole solution" to its financial crisis.
It has also announced that it will have a limited autumn season and will return to live music and its work with the community.
