Newcastle Airport has announced it will be cutting jobs as it attempts to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its managers have warned that it could be at least two years before it is able to return to the level of business it had before this situation.

A spokeswoman for the airport confirmed to ITV Tyne Tees that the total number of jobs which will be going is 34.

The spokeswoman described the decision as "difficult".

She added that the airport could not avoid compulsory redundancies and that these job cuts would "ensure the business remains viable for the long-term" and that managers hoped these cuts would prevent future job losses.
