Metro disruption cleared after car crashes into Metro train
Services on the Tyne and Wear Metro between Kingston Park and Newcastle Airport were disrupted on Saturday morning after a car collided with a Metro train.
No one was seriously injured in the incident.
In a statement, Nexus, the firm that operates the Tyne and Wear Metro, said: "A car collided with a Metro train on the level crossing at Callerton Parkway just after 10am today.
"Nobody has been seriously injured.
"The service was suspended between Airport and Kingston Park while our staff and emergency services dealt with the incident and cleared the track.
"Drivers are reminded to take care at level crossings and ensure that they stop when the red lights are flashing and the warning tones are sounding.”
In a Tweet, police reminded both drivers and pedestrians not to attempt to cross a crossing when the lights are red.
In a separate Tweet police said the incident was "low speed".
