The next Premier League and Football League seasons will kick off on 12 September, it has been announced.

The top-flight campaign will end on 23 May, while the Championship, League One and League Two seasons will culminate on 8 and 9 May.

Newcastle United will be competing in the Premier League, while Middlesbrough will again play in the Championship after securing survival in the division under manager Neil Warnock.

Sunderland will be looking to battle their way out of League One for a third consecutive season after finishing eighth and therefore missing out on the playoffs in the 2019/20 campaign. The season was formally ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Magpies will end their Premier League season on Sunday when they welcome champions Liverpool to St James' Park. Fixtures were suspended for three months because of the pandemic.
