Newcastle named UK’s most e-scooter friendly city

A new survey has named Newcastle as the city most suitable for a rollout of rented e-scooters.

The research was carried out by the energy team at Uswitch.com and took into account factors such as air quality, pothole complaints, bike thefts and planned cycle routes.

Newcastle topped the index with 50 out of 70 points, owing to 13km of cycle lanes and 8,306 potential commuters who could benefit from the rental scheme.

Northern cities made up seven of the top ten places with Sunderland ninth on the list.

This week Middlesbrough unveiled plans to roll out a fleet of e-scooters across the Tees Valley.
